A beautiful hand-made antique ceramic wall plaque depicting a putti /cherub, finished in a striking blue iridescent glaze.

Made by the Massier pottery in Vallauris, south of France and dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The plaque is impressed Massier, Vallauris to the reverse.

The wonderfully iridescent glaze shifts between deep blue, turquoise and violet depending on the light, a technique associated with the Massier workshops and their Art Nouveau ceramics.

There are some minor imperfections  and wear to the glaze around the edges, consistent with the age of the piece. The glaze is slightly worn on the tip of the nose and there's a small nibble to the underside of the collar, which is not noticeable when displayed on the wall. Otherwise in lovely antique condition.

It also retains holes to the reverse for hanging.

Diameter: L18.5cm |W 16 cm
